In the last four years, CBD has gained widespread attention at a greater scale than ever before. Its sudden surge in popularity prompted scientists and universities alike to begin conducting CBD research. The majority of the recent CBD scientific literature has been performed with animals and functions as only preliminary research, however, the results are promising.
CBD can now be found in a wide range of wellness products and is fast growing in popularity. Products such as coffee, water, supplements, oil, face creams and gummies have all emerged in just the last few years.
CBD is derived from the cannabis plant so many people are still unsure about CBD, for example if it will get you high or if it will show up on a drug test. Below you’ll find some information to help clarify these questions, to help you feel confident with taking CBD.
CBD, which is short for cannabidiol, is one of over 113 naturally-occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant, Cannabis sativa, which is also known as marijuana or hemp. CBD belongs to a class of molecules called cannabinoids. The highest concentrations of cannabinoids found in the marijuana plant are CBD and THC.
Let’s put some context around all these terms: CBD, THC, hemp, marijuana. The plant Cannabis sativa has two main strains: hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD. The difference is in the levels of these two cannabinoids CBD and THC. Whereas hemp contains high levels of CBD and low levels of THC (less than 0.3%), marijuana contains low levels of CBD and high levels of THC.
CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is a complex system that regulates and balances many of the body’s processes, including immune response, metabolism, inflammation response, memory, and more. By stimulating the endocannabinoid system CBD promotes homeostasis or wellness in the body.
What Are the Benefits of CBD?
The CBD industry is flourishing, with CBD extract being added to a wide variety of products, including face creams, water, supplements, vapes, tinctures and balms, to name a few of the growing CBD products on the market.
More and more people are taking CBD, because CBD is being shown to help with many possible health benefits, though research is ongoing. Benefits include reducing inflammation and pain, improving neurological disorders, anxiety and stress relief, aiding better sleep, reducing epilepsy seizures, depression relief. Many people take CBD daily having found great relief and benefits for their ailments, and as CBD doesn’t get you high and is perfectly legal in the UK and many countries, its popularity is growing by the day.
Is CBD Psychoactive?
CBD does not have any psychoactive properties, and therefore CBD oil or extract is considered safe to use on a daily basis. CBD works with the endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for keeping the body in homeostasis.
You can safely consume CBD products knowing that there will be no euphoric high or mind-altering effects.
Does CBD Have Any Side Effects?
Overall, CBD is well-tolerated in humans, even at high doses, and for prolonged use. As already mentioned, unlike THC, CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive effects.
The majority of people using CBD do not experience any negative side effects, as supported by many studies, though in a very small number of people there can be mild side effects when a very high dose is taken, including fatigue, changes to appetite, diarrhoea and changes in the liver’s ability to process drugs.
But for the vast majority of people, CBD can be safely used without negative effects.
Are CBD Gummies Good For You?
Gummy sweets have gone from bear-shaped candies to vitamin gummies and now to CBD or hemp gummies, as part of the new trend in ‘medical confectionary’.
Hemp gummies interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, providing you with several full-body benefits to assist with pain, joint mobility, inflammation, digestion, sleep, anxiety, depression, mood and to provide a sense of relaxation.
They are possibly the most convenient and one of the tastiest ways to get your daily dose of CBD – just pop one in your mouth and enjoy them anywhere, anytime. They’re easy to carry in your bag or purse and you don’t need to fuss with a dropper or needing a glass of water. They’re a slow-release way of taking CBD as your digestive system will absorb the compounds at a slower pace than with using a dry herb vaporizer to ingest CBD.
Hemp gummies also offer a more palatable introduction to CBD if you find the taste of CBD to be displeasing.
What Do Hemp Gummies Do For You?
First of all, let’s make it crystal clear for anyone concerned about hemp gummies making them high – hemp gummies either contain very negligible amounts of THC or none at all, so they can’t get you high.
THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) is what gets you high, and the reason hemp gummies are not psychoactive is because the hemp comes from a different strain of cannabis from that which is used for THC products. Hemp gummies use hemp, whilst THC products use the strain commonly called marijuana. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC which is negligible and most definitely won’t get you high. Besides, hemp gummies have to be under the legal THC level in the UK and in countries where THC is not yet legal, so you can rest assured that by enjoying a daily hemp gummy or two, you’re not breaking any laws.
Plain and simple – hemp gummies are gummies infused with CBD oil so you get the benefits that CBS provides.
6 Reasons to Take CBD Gummies
Here are 6 top reasons why CBD gummies make the ideal choice for your CBD needs.
1. No “High” Effect
CBD gummies offer great benefits without the high, so you can confidently take them daily knowing they will not get in the way of cognitive performance.
2. Convenient and Easy to Take
Whilst CBD oils and capsules are the most popular method of CBD consumption, you do need to keep an eye on dodge of the oil, or have a glass of water handy. Hemp gummies on the hand can just be popped into your mouth wherever you are. They are really convenient and easy to take.
3. Hemp-less Taste
Many people don’t like the nutty, earthy taste of hemp too much, so much so that for some it can put them off taking CBD. This is where hemp gummies can win over these people, especially if you find one that you like the taste of. The Nectar hemp gummies taste delicious as reported by our customers (check out our reviews!) and they come in two flavours: strawberry and orange.
4. No Dosage Worries
One of the first questions people naturally ask when they want to start taking CBD is how much to take.
CBD gummies remove such concerns because they are pre-does jellies and there’s no measuring of oil in a dropper for example, which can sometimes feel like guesswork.
The Nectar hemp gummies contain 5mg of CBD extract per gummy, as well as healthy omega-3-rich flaxseed oil (200mg per gummy), so you’re giving your body some vital nutrition and health-promoting hemp. Pick one of two delicious flavours: natural strawberry and orange.
CBD not only provides health-promoting cannabinoid but is also a rich source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that can prevent or slow damage to cells caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules that the body produces as a reaction to environmental and other pressures. This can play a role in preventing heart disease, cancer and other diseases.
CBD has had a complicated legal journey due to hemp’s relation to the marijuana plant and specifically its psychoactive component, THC. However, CBD (from hemp) is very different to marijuana in its experience for the consumer, as hemp is very low in THC.
In the UK, US and many other countries CBD products are legal to take.
What is Hemp?
Hemp, also known as industrial hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant and is specifically grown for industrial and many other uses. It’s used in making a wide range of commercial products such as cloth, clothes, bags, skincare such as hemp pain relief creams, lip balms, supplements, rope, cleaning products such as soaps – to name just a few.
Hemp is considered beneficial for a number of health conditions including high cholesterol, inflammation, pain, eczema, psoriasis, arthritis and other ailments.
Is Hemp the Same as Marijuana?
Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant (Cannabis sativa) but they are different strains of cannabis with very different levels of THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) – it’s the THC that causes the ‘high.’
Hemp has a lot more CBD than marijuana and marijuana has a lot more THC than hemp. In percentage terms, industrial hemp has less than 0.3% THC. To put it simply, hemp can’t get you high. As for CBD, hemp plants contain approximately 10% to 18%.
What Are Hemp Edibles?
Hemp edibles such as gummies contain CBD, a cannabinoid compound derived from the natural hemp plant. The other well-known cannabinoid is THC which is derived from a different strain of hemp.
CBD edibles can originate from either hemp or from marijuana. Nectar’s edibles derive from hemp, as these are the only ones that are legal in the UK. Our gummies are vegan-friendly, free of palm oil and diary and contain no artificial sweeteners, artificial colours or preservatives.
What’s the Difference Between Hemp Seed Oil and CBD Oil?
Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are both made from the same cannabis plant. CBD oil is extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stems, whilst hemp seed oil is derived from the seeds.
Are CBD Edibles Legal in the UK?
Yes, CBD edibles are legal to buy and use in the UK if the finished product contains less than 1mg of THC. THC is the cannabinoid responsible for getting you ‘high’. The level of THC in products containing hemp seed and CBD oils are extremely low – 0.3% or less, so they’re not going to get you high.
Does CBD Show Up On a Drug Test?
Not if you buy a reputable product with negligible amounts of THC (it’s not legal anyway to have higher amounts of THC than 0.2% according in the UK). On rare occasions it could do, if the CBD product contains trace amounts of THC so you should only buy trusted CBD products and check the % of THC in the product.
