What is a Grinder Used For?
Grinders are used to grind down herb to make it ready for use in a vaping device such as a dry herb vaporizer. They grind down herb material to a finer consistency thereby improving the vaping experience through more even vapour intensity.
Grinders can be simple with two pieces, or more refined with 4 pieces which provide a more evenly ground material, such as the Nectar grinders in our shop.
A grinder allows you to quickly and easily grind down just the amount of material you need, rather which preserves the potency by reducing exposure to light, oxygen and heat.
How Do You Use a Grinder?
Step 1: First, remove the top lid which attaches via a magnet to keep things intact as you grind. Break up your herb into smaller pieces and place them in the grinding chamber’s ‘teeth’. You don’t need to place any material in the centre of the chamber as this is where the magnet pivots with no shredding taking place.
Step 2: Next, put the lid back on the grinder, and rotate the lid about 10 times or until all the herb has fallen through the holes. Some material can get lodged around the sides, so you can use the lid to tap against the sides to loosen this up
Step 3: Now, unscrew the top chamber from the section underneath where you will find the ground up herb.
How Do You Clean A Metal Herb Grinder?
Metal herb grinders can get clogged and sticky and sometimes they’ll lock up and it won’t be possible to twist or open them. So keep your grinder working efficiently by cleaning it regularly – say, every month or two. So here’s how to clean a metal grinder.
Cleaning a Metal Herb Grinder With Isopropyl Alcohol
Disassemble the metal parts of the grinder and place the parts into a glass jar.
- Add Isopropyl Alcohol into the jar so the parts are fully submerged. Iso will also kill any bacteria that may be lurking in nooks and crannies
- Let the grinder soak for 20-30 minutes, agitating the container once in a while to help break up any stubborn residue
- When the liquid turns a light brown colour or if you can see all residue has become dislodged, then rinse and dry your grinder
Cleaning a Metal Herb Grinder With Vinegar
If you don’t have any Isopropyl Alcohol or prefer to use something natural, then vinegar is also an effective and safe way to clean a metal grinder. Simply dip a small brush in a mixture of white vinegar (several tablespoons) and warm water, and use this to remove sticky residues. Instead of a brush you can also use a clean cloth and rub gently. Once cleaned, you can rinse the parts under warm water. The bonus is that vinegar adds a nice shine too.
