Lately it seems like everyone is going from smoking to vaping, which is great! We have heard and seen all the scientific evidence that vaping is better for your health than smoking, so why not include concentrates too. What is Rosin?

Let’s first understand what exactly Rosin is… it is a cannabis extract which is made using heat and pressure. Cannabis plant material is usually placed in a press with heated plates, then compressed, squeezing out hot oil. The process is completely solventless. This process was actually originally used to create rosin for violin bows, which is where this concentrate gets its name.

The process of extracting rosin takes little to no time and will have your rosin ready in minutes. Once finished it doesn’t require any extra steps to purify or dilute the extracted oil. Making it a super simple method, and anyone can make rosin at home with a few household tools, or with a press, to learn how to make rosin read this article.

Many cannabis extractions are further refined to remove other compounds, but rosin is a full-spectrum extract, containing the cannabinoid and terpene profile of the original plant. Rosin can be made from any of the following:

• Nugs/flower
• Hash
• Kief
• Trim

What are Vape Cartridges?

If we are going to go through how to make a Rosin Vape Cart then we should find out what exactly a Vape Cartridge is first. It’s a glass cartridge that is pre-filled with a gram or half-gram of cannabis oil. This oil contains various combinations of cannabinoids and terpenes extracted from cannabis.

Vape carts are great because they are pretty much lots of individual dabs loaded into one tiny cartridge, allowing you to take hits all day, anywhere! They are incredibly portable, lightweight and very discreet. If anyone sees you with a vape cart, chances are they will assume it’s normal vape juice!

Most oil vape carts are high in THC, however, more and more CBD-dominant vape cartridges are entering the market, as are 1:1 THC:CBD products. How to Make Vape Cartridges with Your Rosin

Now, onto the good part – the actual method. When it comes to making your Rosin into a vape cart, there are actually a few different ways that you can do it. You can also mix and match some of the methods together if you like. Here they are:

• Heat Cure – this is when you place the rosin into a sealed glass jar as soon as possible after pressing. You then place this jar in the oven with the lid on, we will go into more detail further on.
• Winterize – Winterizing is the process of separating unwanted fats, lipids and waxes from rosin using food-grade alcohol. For this process, mix rosin and food-grade alcohol (like Everclear) into a 1:10 ratio. Use just enough so the rosin is fully dissolved. Freeze the mixture for 12-48 hours. Filter out the solids using a filter (e.g. coffee filter). Let the rosin sit in a warm environment to evaporate any remaining alcohol.
• Add Terpenes – for this method it is recommended that you first run a test mixture. Add about 1-3 drops of terpenes to a gram of rosin and mix it together. Adjust the amount of drops to achieve the consistency you are after. Scale up the test mixture to the full batch and use this as a guideline. Add terpenes in slowly and mix together as you go until your desired consistency is reached.
• Add Liquidizers – now this method is one way to make vape carts with your rosin, however it is important to note that this method is not recommended as the safety of vaporizing PG/VG is not known. If you still choose to use this method then you should add in premade liquidizing mixtures to lower the viscosity of the rosin and that is about it!

The key things to note about these processes is the end goal – each process is aiming to take the thick oil that rosin is, and to liquify or smooth it down so that it is easier to take through vape cartridges. This is because freshly pressed rosin may not be a suitable consistency for filling vape carts, ideally the rosin should have a low viscosity.

As there are so many methods above to choose from we are going to focus on the most simple method, which is the Heat Cure.

Using the Heat Cure Method to Make Vape Carts from Rosin

This method is the simplest because it requires the least equipment out of all the other methods and is definitely the easiest as it can’t go wrong! All you need is:

• Access to an oven
• Rosin
• A glass jar with a lid
• An empty vape cartridge
• A needle

Instructions:

1. First, make sure you have all your equipment ready. Preheat your oven to anywhere between 90-120°C. Transfer your rosin into the glass jar and put the lid on.
2. Once the oven is heated, place your glass jar filled with rosin in the center of your oven. Make sure that the lid is on the jar and close the oven door.
3. Put on a timer for anywhere between 20 minutes to over an hour, the process can always take a different amount of time depending on the thickness of your rosin. You will need to keep a close eye on the jar during the process.
4. The reason why you must keep a close eye on the jar during this time is because the actual rosin will be what indicates when it is finished. While in the oven being heated up, you will see bubbles begin to form a rise up – the cure should be finished when you do not see any more bubble forming.
5. Once the bubbling has stopped, it means that your rosin is ready to take out! Carefully remove the jar from the oven and use a heat proof glove or cloth to remove the lid from the jar – be very careful not to burn yourself or to knock the jar over!
6. At this point, you can add in terpene drops if you desire, or you can leave it with it’s natural terps. If you decide to add terps then stir them in to ensure it is fully distributed.
7. Now you need to use your syringe to pull all the rosin from the jar, and then transfer it into your empty vape cartridge. Do not overfill it. Once it is full make sure you put the cap straight on to prevent any spillages or leaks!
8. You have now made your rosin cart – it is pretty much ready to go, just attach it to your vape and enjoy!

How to Vape Your Rosin Cartridge

Now that you have made your vape cartridge from your rosin, you need to know how to vape it! But to be honest with you, it’s pretty simple. All you have to do is attach your cart to the battery and start puffing away!

Here are some key tips that you can follow:

• If your device has an On/Off button and it isn’t working, chances are you turn it on by clicking it 5 times, and vice versa when switching it off.
• To avoid any oil leakages, make sure that your cart is completely attached to it’s battery.
• Always try to keep and store your vape pen / cartridge upright, this way it will avoid oil leakage and keep all the oil at the bottom, making it ready to vape 24/7.
• When using vape carts start slow and test your tolerance over time as it is very easy to overconsume. Remember, these vape hits are pretty much straight up dabs!
• Monitor the temperature on your vape to ensure your cart isn’t burning too hot. Doing this could alter some of the oil’s chemical components – usually 3 clicks adjusts the temp.

The most important things to remember are that you use the same amount of rosin for the amount of vape cartridges you will be using, e.g. 1g Rosin for 2 x 0.5g carts. As well as making sure you do the necessary process to change the viscosity of the rosin itself. Other than that, go slow and have fun!
